Our flight envelope is to the east of the field.
There is no flying to the west of the flight line (the only exception is gliders). There are houses to the west so we don’t fly power aircraft over those properties in an effort to keep from irritating the neighbors.
The Mima Mound area to the south of the field is pretty much wide open. There are a couple of houses in that direction but they are quite a ways from the field and you’d probably lose sight of your aircraft long before you irritated the homeowners.
To the north, the situation is similar but it is the actual gun club (trap and skeet ranges) and they are much closer. With a large aircraft, it is quite easy to encroach on the shooting ranges so you have to be careful to keep your plane closer to our field.
The area to the east of, and fairly close to our flying field is an area of trails that the gun club uses for ‘sporting clays’. We’ve never really had any issues with flying while they are shooting on the sporting clays course but be sensitive to them and use common sense. If you hear them shooting in that area, keep your plane a little closer to the field and/ or a little higher so they aren’t tempted to take a potshot at your plane. 😉
Here’s an overhead view of the field so you can get your bearings.
